Different doors 102 cm above ground level

1994

site-specific installation
Valentinskamp 41, Hamburg-Neustadt (D)
With its richly "layered" historical background and broad potential for use—functional as a fascist printing house, boxing hall, circus, or marketplace—the space is supplemented with yet another temporal layer. This intervention represents the inverse of the "usual" archaeological approach: instead of salvaging artifacts, it constructs them. It reconstructs traces and remnants that have been partially destroyed or cut through with new entrances—embedded into the architectural structure—of a possible sequence of events (a sunken ground level? layered construction? flooding?). This interior design intervention—102 centimeters above ground level—expands the architecture with door fragments, extensions, and additions, opening specialized research windows into an alternative past.
